Powerdyne Supercharger Review

Think about getting a powerdyne supercharger for your muscle car this spring, think again gear head. Word traveling around muscle car forums is bad news. I remember coming across one article on a muscle car forum, the owner stated after purchasing a brand new supercharger in late September 1999, the first failure came about 22 miles down the road. The internal belt had failed which caused the powerdyne supercharger to stop making boost.

The current owner then sent the unit out to Powerdyne to get fixed, which cost him $40. Eventually he gets it back, when installing the owner noticed the impeller nut had broken off. The impeller was chewed right up. What comes next is really screwed up, I'm just going to post the rest of the story with his own words.

"I spoke with Sam at Powerdyne again today and after about a half an hour of conversing he hung up on me. On Monday he told me that he would give me a new head unit and if that failed than I would be given a refund. Well overnight I thought about it and decided to call him back and get that promise in writing. I tried to email him but he wouldn't respond. So after a couple of attempts of calling he finally spoke with me. I basically asked him everything I could think of and once he ran out of answers he informed me that "there is no chance you are getting a refund". This just one day after he said that I would get one if the new unit failed. He said some things to me on the phone that made me really wonder how this company is still in business. He stated that they were a million dollar company and that the money isn't a problem, but they don't give refunds. He then went on to say that the second failure wasn't their fault. That the heat treated shaft had failed and they don't make them. I responded with "that is your fault because you chose to use a companies shaft that isn't up to par." He didn't have much to say after that. He told me that the owner of the company, Jim Wheeler, is the only one that can give a refund. I asked to speak to the owner and he said I couldn't. He said "You don't call to the whitehouse and ask to speak to Bill Clinton do you?" What is this line. What a joke. He then said that the owner is not involved with the business and that he pays guys like him to run it. I responded "than if you run it you can give me a refund". He responded "I can't, only the owner can". But he just got done saying the owner dosn't get involved in the business. He basically contradicted everything he said and eventually got so frustrated that he hung up on me."

So the conclusion I've come to is don't buy superchargers from Powerdyne, they have really bad support and they don't stand behind their product. I hate companies like this, they step all over the little people and yet they are still a million dollar business. I hope this article gets out across the web and Powerdyne understands they need to change their attitude towards their customers.
