Bought a Fishing Boat: 2000 Smoker Craft

Sorry I haven't posted on the blog in a few days, I was busy with my new purchase of a boat. No I'm not selling any of my muscle cars, I'm still going to keep my 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra and my 2002 Trans Am WS.6. But, I am running room in my garage. I'm going to have to move one of those muscle cars out to my parents house, I think it's going to be my 2004 Cobra.

The boat I bought is a 2000 Smoker Craft and I got it off of Craiglist. I don't want to release the figure I bought it for, but I definitely got one hell of a deal. It wasn't easy though, I was checking Craigslist and other websites like ever three hours every day. Some of the other boat classifieds sites I was checking out was iBoats and Boat Trader. Most of those websites though just list dealer's boats, not personally owned boats. So if you buy your boat off one of those websites chances are you're going to be paying $2k extra.

Craigslist is where it's at, some webmasters say the traffic going to that website is just enormous! I think it is since it's taken traffic away from Ebay and other classified websites. Like I said up above though, in order to find a good deal on a boat or car, make sure you check back often. People are always posting cars and boats every minute, I actually found my boat at 3am. Then I called him at 10am the next day, I apologized the owner for calling so early, then I told him how serious I was and he gave me a call back within an hour. For the next few hours after my hour, he said the calls were coming in constantly. The seller allowed me to be the first one to take a hack at the boat, luckily he went with what I offered him. He could of easily sold the boat for $2k+. Believe me, it's not about luck, it's about hard work and using your brain. So if you find something you like you better hop on it immediately!

I posted a picture of what my boat looks like, it's not a very good and big picture but it will do for now. Soon as I trailer it to my house I'll try and post more pictures of the Smoker Craft boat, it sure is one hell of a boat. Hopefully it runs good and there isn't any problems, that's the risk you take when you buy a used boat from another person.

  • There are a LOT of lines out there to choose from. Personally, if I were getting a second line for that rig and that kind of fishing I’d probably go with a clear intermediate sink line (sometimes called a sly line). I’ve used this line for fishing for smallies here in CA and have loved it. Sly Lines are really easy to cast. They are good options for fishing still water as they are less likely to spook the fish, but still allow you to get down a little bit. That’s my $.02.
